This is one beast of the air that you don't want to run into...

Let me introduce you to the Japanese Giant Hornet (Vespa mandarinia japonica). Since this apex predator lives in hives of up to several hundred angry workers, this is certainly an animal that you don't want to mess with. Thier favourite food, the infamous honey bee. Just thirty of these beasts are able to wipe out a honey bee hive of 30,000 workers strong... In short, these guys are MASSIVE!

With a 1/4 of an inch sized stinger, they have one of the most painful stings of any insect, especially if you make them really mad and are chased by a swarm of them. These hornets are always angry and are looking for something to hunt down and feed to their larvae. Unfortunately, these hornets are considered pests in Japan because they are responsible for an average of 40 human deaths every year.

Now you can probably see why these guys are called the Samurais of the air because they conquer many other insect civilisations...
